Captured in Porcelain

April 28 – October 28, 2012

opening reception Saturday April 28, 2012 2-4 p.m.

While every lithophane has a story associated with its image, some lithophanes are based on popular stories and are literally Captured in Porcelain. These three-dimensional porcelain plaques mounted in candle shields, night lights, tea warmers, lanterns, beer steins, and stained glass to be hung in sunlit windows, feature stories of comedy, romance, tragedy, and even a minuet-serenading violinist. The special exhibition Captured in Porcelain will feature magical 19th century lithophanes with images of Esméralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Scheherazade from One Thousand and One Arabian Nights, Don Quixote, Marguerite and Faust, Paul and Virginia, Reynard the Fox by Goethe, Auld Robin Gray, and more.
